Liturgical Ministries
Our parish relies on the volunteer ministry of many people who serve at our Masses. Currently, we celebrate 7 Sunday Masses on the weekends, and 9 daily Masses throughout the week. We have over 300 volunteer ministers who assist at these celebrations.
If you are interested in helping in any of these ministries, please contact Michele Harris at mharris@visitstfrancis.org or 410-742-6443.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHCs) assist the ordinary ministers of Holy Communion (priests and deacons) in the distribution of Holy Communion. EMHCs must be fully initiated members of the Church and demonstrate fidelity to the sacraments. Candidates must be approved by the pastor and attend a diocesan formation class. EMHCs must attend a re-certification session every four years.
Minsiters to the Sick take Communion to the sick and homebound of our parish. Many people are needed to serve in this capacity. Candidates must be approved by the pastor and attend a diocesan formation class.
Lectors proclaim the Word of God at Masses and other services. Lectors must be approved by the pastor and demonstrate fidelity to the sacraments. Training is done on the parish level.
Ushers and Greeters are vital to our worship services. Most often, the usher is the first person that we meet when we come to Mass. The usher creates and atmosphere of welcome and hospitality. They are responsible for welcoming people, seating them, and also handling the collection.
Altar Servers assist at the table of the Lord during Mass. In our parish, youth in grades 5 through 12 are eligible to serve in this ministry.
Sacristans are responsible for the immediate preparations for our Masses. They prepare the vessels for Communion, the bread and wine, light candles, turn on lights and make sure all items are ready for Mass.
Other volunteers are needed to wash the linens used for Mass and to help decorate and maintain the environment in our churches.
Please consider getting involved and helping us in one of these ministries! Thank you.
